Architecture and Design
Integrated water design architecture
The Flint House stands out for its striking form and choice of materials. The architecture is reminiscent of a collision of tectonic plates and blends harmoniously with the surrounding landscape. The facade is made of handpicked flint, arranged in various shades from dark grey to white, giving the building a natural aesthetic. The interiors were designed by David Mlinaric and combine modern elements with historical furniture pieces from the Rothschild collection.
Guesthouse for academics and artists
Function and Use
Renowned architecture awards in Britain
Originally conceived as a residence for the curator of the neighboring Rothschild Archives, the Flint House now serves as a guesthouse for academics, artists, and scholars working at the Waddesdon Estate. It offers a unique accommodation that allows guests to stay in an architecturally significant building while enjoying the surroundings of the estate.
Special Features
A notable element of the Flint House is the integration of water into the design. A small stream was diverted to flow through and around the building, creating a seamless connection between the interior and exterior spaces. This stream flows into a small pond surrounding the building, emphasizing the natural environment.
